Our commitment

Health and Safety Policy

How we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our people, and of everyone affected by our work, in plain English.

Aligned with ISO 45001:2018
Version 1.0 Issued July 2026 Reviewed at least annually
Statement of intent

People first, risk managed

Gibberish Limited provides managed IT support, cyber security and Virtual CISO services to small and medium sized businesses across London and the Home Counties. Our work is mostly office based, home based and delivered remotely, with some travel to client premises.

The health, safety and wellbeing of our people, and of anyone affected by our work, matter to us. This policy sets out how we protect them. It is aligned with the requirements of ISO 45001:2018 and provides the framework within which we set and review our health and safety objectives.

Jargon explained  ISO 45001

The international standard for occupational health and safety management. It sets out how an organisation identifies hazards, controls risks and continually improves, with a strong emphasis on involving workers in the decisions that affect their safety.

What we commit to

Our commitments

The core promises this policy is built on, in line with ISO 45001:2018.

Safe and healthy conditions

Provide safe and healthy working conditions to prevent work related injury and ill health, appropriate to the size and nature of our business and its risks.

Eliminate and reduce

Eliminate hazards and reduce health and safety risks so far as is reasonably practicable.

Meet our obligations

Comply with our legal duties and the other requirements that apply to our business.

Consult our people

Consult and involve our people on the matters that affect their health, safety and wellbeing.

Inform and train

Provide the information, instruction, training and supervision people need to work safely.

Keep improving

Continually improve how we manage health and safety, setting measurable objectives and reviewing progress against them.

Working together

We involve our people

We consult our people directly on health and safety matters, including changes that may affect their health, safety or wellbeing, the findings of risk assessments, and the training we provide. People are encouraged to raise concerns and suggestions at any time, without fear of reprisal, and we act on what we hear.

Our arrangements

How we manage the risks

The practical steps behind the commitments above, scaled to the risks of an IT business.

Risk assessment
We assess the risks arising from our activities and workplaces, record the significant findings, put sensible controls in place, and review assessments regularly and after any significant change.
Display screen equipment
Because most of our work involves computers, we assess workstations, give guidance on good set up and posture, encourage regular breaks and movement, and support eye test requests where the Display Screen Equipment Regulations apply.
Home and remote working
We help our people set up safe and comfortable home workstations, give guidance on posture, breaks and equipment, and treat home working environments as part of our risk assessment process.
Lone working and client sites
When working alone or at a client site, our people follow the client's site rules and safety arrangements, stay alert to unfamiliar hazards, and keep in contact so that someone knows where they are and can raise the alarm if needed.
Driving and travel for work
We keep work travel to the minimum needed and plan journeys sensibly. Anyone driving for work is expected to hold a valid licence and insurance and to keep their vehicle roadworthy, and we never expect people to drive when tired or unfit to do so.
Electrical and equipment safety
We maintain our IT and electrical equipment in safe working order, visually check equipment before use, and take damaged items out of service.
Fire safety and emergencies
We follow the fire and emergency arrangements of the premises we work in, keep escape routes clear, and make sure our people know what to do in an emergency.
First aid and reporting
We provide access to first aid appropriate to our size and workplaces. Accidents, injuries, near misses and cases of work related ill health are reported and recorded, and reportable incidents are notified to the authorities under RIDDOR.
Manual handling
We avoid unnecessary manual handling. Where lifting or moving equipment is needed, we plan it, use good technique and suitable aids, and share loads where sensible.
Mental health and wellbeing
We treat work related stress and mental wellbeing as part of health and safety. We manage workload and on call demands sensibly, encourage open conversations, and help people who are struggling to find appropriate support.
Training and information
We give our people the information and training they need to work safely, including when they join, when their role changes, and when new risks arise.
Incident investigation
We investigate accidents, near misses and concerns to understand what happened and to prevent recurrence, and we feed the lessons back into our risk assessments and this policy.
Jargon explained  DSE

Display Screen Equipment, such as monitors and laptops. UK regulations require employers to assess DSE workstations and help users avoid problems such as eye strain and back or neck pain.

Jargon explained  RIDDOR

The Reporting of Injuries, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences Regulations. They require certain workplace accidents, occupational diseases and dangerous events to be reported to the Health and Safety Executive.

How it is governed

Responsibilities, law and review

Responsibilities

The Directors hold overall and final responsibility for health and safety, making sure there are adequate resources and setting the direction of this policy. Day to day responsibility rests with the appointed health and safety lead, who keeps the policy up to date, coordinates risk assessments and arranges training. All employees, contractors and associates take reasonable care of their own health and safety and that of others, follow safe working practices, and report hazards, near misses and concerns promptly.

Legal and other requirements

We identify and comply with the health and safety legislation applicable to our business. This currently includes, where relevant:

We monitor changes to these obligations and update our practices accordingly.

Communication and availability

This policy is communicated to everyone working for or on behalf of Gibberish Limited. It is available to clients, suppliers and other interested parties on request, and is published here on our website.

Monitoring and review

We monitor our health and safety performance and review this policy at least once a year, and sooner if our activities, our legal obligations or our understanding of our risks change significantly.
